Alpha believes that children's theatre should be treated like it's adults theatre. Therefore, unlike virtually all other children's theatre companies, we don't settle on quality. Those other shows seem to all have common elements. Silly made up songs that aren't engaging. Illogical, boring, silly or predictable plots and stories, or stories that are just weird. Sets that you wouldn't even call 'sets', usually a few random props and 1 badly painted backdrop. Costumes that they tell you are wonderful but really have had no money or talent spent on them. No more than 3 or 4 performers, that are often strangely cast and not what children would expect from a 'princess' or 'prince'. Shows that are advertised at 50 or 60 minutes but finish in 40 minutes. And they all have quotes from parents saying it was the 'best children's show they've ever seen'! That's because the standard we've allowed for children's theatre for decades has been rubbish.

Alpha shows not only revolutionises all the above limitations, but our shows are more than just entertainment. They contain important messages about life, being your best and lessons we could all use, grown ups included! The scripts are not cobbled together based on some book of the year or some silly random plot or character. They are carefully crafted to be comically clever, heart warming and life changing because of the wonderful universal truths they contain. The music is based on songs that engage us already at a high level, those we're familiar with.

So what level of quality should you expect from Alpha? Well the shows use full production values, just like the premiere children's and family entertainment you might be familiar with from a big name company - but in our own style, and using our expertise that turns these stories into real theatrical stage shows (that becomes far more real and memorable for a child than just the movie on DVD). This is theatre at it's most magical, memorable and engaging. Although we would never be able to say our shows go as far in expense and jaw-dropping stage work that certain shows 'on ice' go to or other shows that do long seasons in CBD theatres, Alpha has managed to bring the elements you would expect from these elaborate productions (costumes, sets, performer talent) and yet still be a show that can tour to a different venue each day and be cheap enough for any group to afford. Plus we add to the already familiar and common shows done for children many times in the past (like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty) by producing more shows never done on the stage before. We also perform them in our much-loved Alpha style that has incredible levels of audience inclusion and interactivity unlike anything in other classic children's movies that have made it to the stage. And whilst some stage shows and movies have lovely and famous music theatre style songs - we've actually found the songs we put in our shows to be more appreciated, loved and remembered.

And if you find yourself still stuck in the old paradigm of the way children's theatre used to be done (or is still, unfortunately, being done almost everywhere)...then you're not thinking about your audiences, not focussing on the children's entertainment and enjoyment. If you think shows for children should be a certain way, and you find yourself focussed on some esoteric or obscure element you think Alpha doesn't provide...like an over-the-top lighting plot or a famous musical director who has his name attached to some old show written and produced decades ago - then you're missing the point. If you truly care about the impact you are having on your young audiences and want to give them the most memorable and engaging theatre possible, then join us in the revolution. We may not have cutesie quiet little kids shows for you, but we guarantee that you will engage all the children for longer, you will help to create massive levels of growth and excitement, and host shows that appeal to children of a significantly broader age range.
